Dr. Rev. Andrea Zaki, President of the Evangelical Community in Egypt and President of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, appeared on “The Citizen and the Official” program on Al Shams TV to discuss the “Role of Civil Society Organizations in Egypt in Care and Development.”
The episode featured Dr. Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, former Minister of Awqaf; Dr. Talaat Abdel Qawi, President of the General Federation of NGOs and Civil Society Institutions; and Major General Mamdouh Shaaban, Director General of Orman Association.
Dr. Rev. Andrea Zaki explained that the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, established in 1950, serves around 4 million citizens annually across various governorates without discrimination, through development programs covering health, education, agriculture, housing, and support for small enterprises.
He also reviewed the organization’s efforts to support persons with disabilities by providing prosthetic limbs and wheelchairs, rehabilitating public institutions, and contributing to the promotion of their rights and inclusion in society.
He further highlighted the “Ezraa” initiative, implemented by the organization in cooperation with the National Alliance for Civil Development Work and the Ministries of Agriculture and Social Solidarity. The initiative has contributed to cultivating more than one million feddans and supporting hundreds of thousands of smallholder farmers through smart farming methods.
Dr. Rev. Andrea Zaki affirmed the importance of civil society’s role in promoting development and strengthening the values of citizenship and coexistence.
