The Coptic Evangelical Organization Launches an Innovation Competition for Water Conservation in Upper Egypt Governorates
The Local Development Unit of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, a member of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, launched the “Innovation for Water Conservation” competition, which aims to present innovative solutions and ideas rooted in local communities.
The competition comes as part of the implementation of the “Improving Natural Resources and Water Management” project, which is being carried out in four Upper Egypt governorates: Sohag, Minya, Beni Suef, and Fayoum, in partnership with 12 local communities.
The competition activities, held across Upper Egypt governorates, witnessed the participation of a distinguished group of consultants specialized in water management and governance, alongside experts and academics representing faculties of engineering and agriculture. Representatives from government institutions, including the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Agriculture, also participated, as well as members of the private sector and partner civil society organizations in the project’s target communities.
These experts also took part in four judging committees at the governorate level to evaluate the submitted innovations.
More than 20 young men and women participated in the competition, presenting community-based innovations that contribute to water conservation. These included models for controlling irrigation water, ideas for reducing household water consumption, applications based on artificial intelligence technologies, and initiatives to raise community awareness about the importance of conserving water.
In addition, around 300 young men and women took part in activities held alongside the competition to mark World Water Day, under the theme: “Water for Peace.”
