“Sib El-Mawaqe‘ w Ehtam Bel-Waqe‘” … A New Step to Promote Citizenship and Digital Awareness

A New Initiative by the Forum for Intercultural Dialogue to Promote Citizenship and Combat Digital Isolation in Minya Governorate

As part of the Forum for Intercultural Dialogue’s commitment—affiliated with the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services—to building the capacities of community leaders, including religious leaders (sheikhs, pastors, female preachers, lay preachers, and volunteers) from Minya and Alexandria governorates, the Forum launched the “Sib El-Mawaqe‘ w Ehtam Bel-Waqe‘” initiative in Minya Governorate, in cooperation with Misr Public Library, the Jesuit team, and a group of mid-level community leaders.

The initiative aims to strengthen the values of citizenship and community participation among youth, and to reduce digital isolation that has contributed to distancing them from real social interaction, through diverse approaches based on dialogue and direct engagement.

The initiative targeted 100 young men and women from villages across Minya Governorate, offering them opportunities to engage in cultural and interactive activities that many villages lack. The activities included:
▪️ A theatrical performance titled “Offline”
▪️ A podcast session
▪️ Interactive lectures and discussions
▪️ Workshops and storytelling sessions

The initiative also featured important awareness sessions, including:

  • “Let It Stop with You,” raising awareness about the dangers of being drawn into rumors and unreliable information

  • “One Minute in Real Life Is Better Than an Hour Online,” addressing the negative impact of excessive social media use on relationships and productivity

Participating youth expressed their engagement and the impact of the initiative through short videos, drawings, and awareness messages, including:

  • “Share with a smile, not just a comment”

  • “Be present… not just online”

  • “Spend less time on screens and more time living”

  • “The real flow is for real life, not for social media”

  • “Real moments don’t need likes or shares—they need your mind and heart to be present”

In the world of social media, there is what is harmful and what is beneficial—and you have the choice to select wisely and contribute to spreading what is beneficial.
