Enhancing International Cooperation to Address Climate Change: President of the Evangelical Community Receives Greenfaith CEO

President of the Evangelical Community Hosts Greenfaith CEO from the United States and Participates in a Panel Discussion on Climate Change Mitigation

Dr. Rev. Andrea Zaki, President of the Evangelical Community in Egypt and Head of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS), welcomed Rev. Fletcher, CEO of Greenfaith from the United States, on Wednesday at the CEOSS headquarters in New Nozha.

During the meeting, Dr. Zaki expressed his delight at the visit, emphasizing its significance in strengthening international collaboration on combating climate change. He highlighted the pivotal role religious institutions and civil society play in raising public awareness and mobilizing efforts to address such challenges, stating: “Climate change is not merely an environmental issue but a global challenge that requires unified efforts for a better future.”

Rev. Fletcher, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, praising the efforts of the CEOSS in addressing climate change. He remarked: “The work carried out by the CEOSS in the fields of agriculture and climate serves as a model to follow. We look forward to enhancing cooperation to achieve our shared environmental goals.”

The meeting was attended by a distinguished group of CEOSS leaders, including Ms. Samira Luka, Senior Head of the Dialogue Sector; Eng. Michael El-Dabaa, Head of Investment and Finance; Mr. Rafik Naji, Director of Development Sites in Northern Egypt; Ms. Rania Rashad, Director of Finance; Ms. Lucia Rabat, Office Manager of the CEOSS President; Ms. Heba Yousry, Program Director at the Forum for Intercultural Dialogue; Ms. Eman Madouh, Program Director for Peacebuilding; and Mr. Magid Boulos, Deputy Director for Rural Development.

Following the meeting, Dr. Zaki participated in a consultative session organized by CEOSS titled: “The Role of Religious Institutions and Civil Society in Combating the Impacts of Climate Change.”

The session discussed the pivotal contributions of religious institutions and civil society in addressing the repercussions of climate change, emphasizing collaboration between various entities to develop sustainable solutions that mitigate these challenges and support sustainable development.

The event brought together prominent religious leaders, academics, and experts, including Dr. Amr Al-Wardani, Secretary of Fatwa at Egypt’s Dar Al-Iftaa; Rev. Amir Tharwat, Pastor of the Evangelical Church in Fagala; Father Samaan Saleh, Director of Development Office at the Catholic Church in Giza; Eng. John Samuel, representative of the Evangelical Theological Seminary; Monk Emmanuel Al-Muharraqi, representative of the Orthodox Church and Deputy of the Virgin Mary Monastery in Al-Muharraq; Dr. Rami Atta, Professor of Journalism at Al-Shorouk Academy; and Dr. Amira Tawadros, Director of the Demographic Center at the Ministry of Planning.

Other notable participants included Eng. Nader Nabil, Director of Technical Support for Climate Change Technology at the Ministry of Environment; Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, Head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and former advisor to the Minister of Agriculture for Climate Change Affairs; and Dr. Bilal Ali Abdel Hamid, Assistant Head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture.
