In the presence of Parliamentarians and Public Figures, CEOSS Concludes the “We Want a Law that Protects us” Project to Protect Domestic Workers

“We want a law that protects us” is the Coptic Evangelical Organization’s slogan at the conclusion of the project “Improving the living conditions of female workers in the informal sector.”

The Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS) has organized, today, Wednesday, the final meeting of the project “Improving the living conditions of women working in the informal sector in poor rural and urban areas”, under the title “We want a law that protects us”. The project aims to improve the quality of life of women working in the informal sector as working to reduce poverty and marginalization of women in the informal sector in urban and rural communities, in Cairo, Qalyubia, Giza, Beni-Suef and Minia in partnership with 30 community development organizations and in partnership with many state institutions whether governmental, private, or civil.

Margaret Sarofim, Head of the Local Development Unit at the Coptic Evangelical Organization said: “Today, CEOSS is organizing the second consultative session with its local partners including NGOs, government agencies, and members of parliament, in the presence of MP Ms. Nashwa el-Deeb, in her capacity as both a parliamentarian and Chair of the Board of Trustees of “Al-Kol Fi Wahed” Foundation, one of the major partners in the project. Ms. El-Deeb supports the category of female domestic workers and will present the draft bill to the House of Representatives. In this consultative session, as a group interested in the welfare of female domestic workers, we all look forward to agreeing on the necessity of societal support for this category of women, and for the need of this group to be represented by civil society and the media, those concerned with this cause, and public figures in order to support the category of domestic workers by proposing a draft law that guarantees protection for women in this sector.”

Ms. Nashwa El-Deeb, Member of the Egyptian Parliament, Ms. Martha Mahrous, Deputy of the Communications Committee of the Egyptian Parliament, Ms. Mai Karam Gabr, Member of the Egyptian Parliament, civil society leaders, Senators and Representatives, media professionals and representatives of the Ministries of Solidarity and Manpower participated in the meeting.

It is noteworthy that the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services in Egypt, headed by Rev. Dr. Andrea Zaki, President of the Evangelical community in Egypt, is one of the Egyptian civil society organizations that has, since its establishment in 1950 until today, given great attention to human beings without regard to color, gender, or creed. The human being is at the center of its mission and it seeks to improve the quality of life of the neediest and most vulnerable citizens in society.
