The Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS) organized a meeting in Sohag Governorate, bringing together a group of young men and women to introduce them to volunteer work and discuss the role of youth in creating a positive impact within their communities, as part of the “Volunteer for Yourself, by Yourself” initiative.
The meeting was attended by 105 young men and women from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, including university students in their final years, employees in both the public and private sectors, and owners of private businesses. All participants shared a common interest in actively engaging in volunteer work and community service.
The event began with an introduction to CEOSS, its activities in Sohag Governorate, and the history of its work in the area. It then addressed the concept, origins, and objectives of volunteerism, as well as CEOSS’s approach to managing volunteer work and encouraging greater youth participation.
The meeting also highlighted CEOSS’s experience in establishing a specialized volunteer unit aimed at expanding youth participation across several governorates, starting with Beheira, Qalyubia, Cairo, Beni Suef, and Minya, and most recently extending to Sohag.
The session provided participants with an opportunity to engage in open dialogue, ask questions, and learn about the different areas in which they can participate and volunteer according to their skills and interests, while contributing to the development of their communities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, young people interested in joining the CEOSS volunteer team in Sohag were invited to complete a registration form. A total of 97 young men and women applied to join the team, paving the way for a capacity-building plan and opportunities to implement volunteer initiatives during the coming period.
It is also worth noting that 250 young men and women from Sohag Governorate had previously registered through the online volunteer application form. They will be engaged and integrated into volunteer teams in successive groups and stages.
The meeting was held under the slogan: “What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others remains immortal.”
