Launching the “Cultivate” initiative for the National Alliance, CEOSS and the Ministry of Agriculture to plant 150,000 acres of wheat

Today, Thursday, the activities of the “Cultivate” initiative of the National Alliance for Civil and Development Work, in partnership with CEOSS and the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture, were launched by cultivating an area of ​​150,000 acres of wheat, working with 100,000 farmers, in Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Beheira, Dakahlia, Qalyubia and Fayoum governorates.

And Dr. Andre Zaki, president of the Evangelical community in Egypt and president of CEOSS, expressed his great happiness at the launch of the initiative and said: “The “Cultivate” initiative reflects the ability of Egyptian government and the civil society to protect Egyptian food security, and we contribute with all our energy and expertise, and we are proud to work in partnership with the National Alliance and the Ministry of Agriculture.”

For her part, Dr. Noha Talaat Abdel Qawi, Secretary of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, said: “We are targeting from the “Cultivate” initiative to cultivate an area of ​​150,000 feddans of the wheat crop, by working with 100 thousand farmers at the level of governorates to work for the initiative of wheat in 8 governorates to expand the agricultural land area of ​​the wheat crop in the targeted governorates, by providing high-quality, certified seeds through assistance in implementing the initiative, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture. The initiative comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the National Alliance for Civil Work and CEOSS as a partner in the alliance, due to its capabilities to advance Egyptian farmers, and to its work to achieve food security by providing strategic crops, especially wheat. This initiative was launched today, Thursday, in the village of Saft al-Gharbia in Minya governorate and Kom Ashfin in Qalyubia governorate.

Margaret Saroufim, Head of the Local Development Sector at CEOSS, said: “Today, about 3,000 farmers from Minya Governorate and 1,500 farmers from Qalyubia Governorate participated in the celebration of the launch of the “Cultivate” initiative, in addition to the implementation of field schools in the rest of the governorates of the initiative to work on supporting farmers technically through the application of Good agricultural practices in the cultivation of the wheat crop, which helps them to increase their productivity and reduce production costs for the wheat crop, in the presence of representatives of the National Alliance for Development Work, the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture, a group of leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture in Minya, the Agricultural Extension Authority, directors of agricultural departments and a group of government officials interested in the agricultural field.
