The Local Development Unit of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services organized a community meeting to discuss the problem of climate change, on Thursday and Friday 24th and 25th of February 2022. The meeting revolved around climate change and its impact on small farmers and agricultural production. It was held with the participation of the Cooperative Associating for Agricultural Finance in El Minya and the Specific Cooperative NGO for the production and marketing of non-traditional crops in Beni Suef, which represent 46 rural communities at the level of the two governorates.
Ms. Margaret Sarofim, head of the local development sector at the CEOSS, said: “The Organization pays special attention to the problem of climate change in order to contribute in reducing the risks and threats to the small farmers and the food production.”
This came within the activities of the project called: “Towards Resilient Egyptian Rural Communities”, funded by the European Union, in cooperation with the Climate Change Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Dr. Mohamed Fahim. The workshop was also attended by Dr. Rafik Ramzy, a capacity-building consultant.
At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to develop an implementation plan during the coming period to implement mechanisms which ensure that small farmers have access to information that will help them withstand and adapt to face the effects of climate change.
