Through its Local Development Unit, the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS) works to strengthen the role of rural women and empower them economically and socially. Women and girls in rural areas face multiple forms of poverty and have limited access to resources and economic opportunities.
Rural women still have less access than rural men and urban women to land, financing, agricultural inputs, more profitable markets, and agricultural and food value chains. They also face growing pressures from poverty, social exclusion, and the impacts of climate change.
Each year, CEOSS works with around 35,000 women and girls in the agribusiness sector. It helps remove barriers to fair access to opportunities and resources, supports women and girls in acquiring productive assets, and helps them develop their skills and expand their economic prospects.
CEOSS believes that empowering rural women enables them to lead positive change in their communities, contribute to food security, and protect natural resources for the long term.
On the International Day of Rural Women, we celebrate their central role in sustainable development and recognize their contributions to building communities that are better equipped to face challenges.
This year’s theme is “Rural Women Protect Our Natural Resources.”
